How do we craft important policy statements for advancing knowledge and support of our innovations? You are specially invited to join this spring's "Marine Policy in the United States," PPOL448 (CRN 54009) and PPOL548 (CRN 54010). The course is 4 credits. Anyone interested should sign up as soon as possible. We have a nice interdisciplinary group of 24 currently, a size which promotes deep learning and significantly enhances meaningful discussion and the formation of a supportive, active learning community. Description: This course introduces students to the history, rationale, achievements, and gaps in American ocean policy. Students will learn the full policy cycle, acquire foundational tools of policy analysis and problem solving, and will synthesize and apply their knowledge creatively to proposals for integrated policy solutions to specific contemporary marine issues. There is no final examination, no required text book, and no prerequisites. We work hard, improve our research, analysis and writing skills, and often form lasting friendships in this course. Faculty Award nominations - we need your help!

Greetings students, I know you are all quite busy with the end of the term, but we have some pretty fantastic awards we are trying to get for some of the faculty in BEE. Oregon State University runs a few annual awards and we have two that we think are quite amazing in BEE! We are nominating Khrystal for the OSU Academic Advising Award and already have a team of seniors working on the letter for this one. Thank you for all your hard work on that!! OSU Assist: Mobile Crisis Response OSU Assist is a multi-disciplinary support team that provides compassionate mobile crisis response and wraparound services for students facing mental health challenges or experiencing other forms of distress. Thank you to everyone for your support to us and Linn-Benton Food Share!! Last year in 2024, our department raised funds equivalent to 8,432 meals for the Linn-Benton Food Share and this year we are raising our goal to 9000 meals. Come support our department as we try to meet our goal this year and since this is seen as a competition throughout the university, the more support the better! Food has the power to heal us, to connect us, to make us stronger. Food solves hunger today by filling plates with nutritious meals. This year the need is greater than ever, and with your help, we can fight hunger! The rising cost of food and housing has increased food insecurity in Oregon, Southwest Washington and across the country. Last year, the Oregon Food Bank Network saw 1.9 million visits to food assistance sites - a 14% increase from the previous year. Food insecurity disproportionately affects specific communities in Oregon, regardless of geography. Today, 1 in 8 people face hunger in rural, urban, and suburban communities throughout the state.
