Robotics Seminar Tomorrow: Robotics Town Hall

Roboticists, A reminder to join us for the last seminar of the term, where our own Ali Jones and Miranda Cravetz will talk about the student labor union (CGE) and lead a Town Hall discussion. Come learn about the union, what is does, and how you can get involved. Coffee and cake will be collectively distributed. Rogers 230, 10am, as ever. cheers -- Bill Robotics Town Hal Ali Jones & Miranda Cravetz (OSU) Abstract: Calling all roboticists! Let’s talk about our community! This special seminar is a town hall meeting for the robotics department - a time and place to discuss working conditions, workspace priorities, and our collective vision for the program. The presenters will also share some info about our labor union, the Coalition of Graduate Employees (CGE)! We will go over the history and structure of CGE, the current demands our union’s bargaining team is fighting to secure for current and future grads, and how we can use our collective power to strengthen our community. There will be space for discussion, questions, and input on CGE matters. Bios: Ali Jones (MS Robotics, OSU): Ali is a second year MS student working in the Intelligent Machines and Materials Laboratory on soft, underwater, bioinspired, jet propulsive robots. Their research uses artificial muscles and compliant mechanisms inspired by the efficient locomotion of the salp. Miranda Cravetz (PhD Robotics, OSU): Miranda is a fourth year PhD student in the Intelligent Machines and Materials Laboratory. Her research focuses on leveraging mechanical compliance for interactive and contact-rich manipulation tasks in everyday environments.
