Rain intensity maps for a subset of TAHMO stations for 2023 and 2024

Hi everyone, One of the things we've been working on the QC algorithms side of things is a better understanding of how rainfall patterns impact algorithm performance (and how we can make better algorithms given real world patterns in the rainfall). We made some maps of rainfall patterns recently that show binned daily rainfall for a 90% data complete subset of TAHMO stations from 2023 and 2024. The maps are essentially heatmaps with binned data, e.g., dry, slightly wet, and then rainy/wet over three thresholds -- 5, 10, and 15mm. The attached maps show the rainfall of the subset stations over the calendar year. The map is grouped by country, and within each country, the stations are sorted in alphabetical order. There are still some issues with the data for the stations in the maps, e.g., a few extreme values stations / station-months, etc. The rain maps actually helped us find some new issues that were not otherwise readily apparent, e.g., long runs of "wet" days. In 2024, station TA00676 is a good example of this long run "wet" period. We'd appreciate local perspectives on some of what we are seeing on these maps. Hopefully, we can discuss during the RainQC Zoom meeting. Kind regards, Michael
