Invitation: Social justice reading group for students

Greetings friends of humanitarian engineering. This reading group focused on social justice may be of interest to you and/or your friends and students: Engineers That Read (ETRE) I am writing to invite you to join ETRE (Engineers That Read), a community of students interested in discussing the role that engineering plays in systemic racism and related topics. This is a space for students to grow through conversation, and a space to discuss how racialized topics shape our responsibilities as engineers. As such, this will be a student-facilitated discussion group where 1-2 different members of the group will co-facilitate a meeting each week. Since its inception in fall 2020, we have read and discussed Are Prisons Obsolete? by Angela Davis, The Origin of Others by Toni Morrison, and Black, Brown and Bruised by Ebony O. McGee. This fall, ETRE will read Race After Technology: Abolitionist Tools for the New Jim Code by Ruha Benjamin. We hope to schedule the first meeting before the start of the fall term so that we can end before things get busy with midterms, final projects, and/or finals. During the first meeting, we will collectively determine the meeting schedule for the fall (for both in-person and virtual meetings). Please sign up here if you are interested in learning more and to indicate your availability for the first meeting: https://beav.es/3j7<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fbeav.es%2F3j7&data=04%7C01%7CNordica.MacCarty%40oregonstate.edu%7C1a204d1ff1cf40522e9e08d95d064cda%7Cce6d05e13c5e4d6287a84c4a2713c113%7C0%7C0%7C637643103901942221%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=91I%2BEj7sQ3%2BOs4XbxMNAgDtUmyqch1F4r9F%2BFa8Vj%2FA%3D&reserved=0> Questions?
