Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR is located within the traditional homelands of the Marys River or Ampinefu Band of Kalapuya.  Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya etc. Treaty),  Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon. Former President Jimmy Carter passed away on December 29 at age 100. Carter was an ardent conservationist. His signing of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act in 1980 protected more than 100 million acres of land in Alaska including expanding many units of the National Wildlife Refuge System.

Federal Application Tips

Understanding Special Hiring Authorities

Special hiring authorities, or special hiring paths, help agencies hire individuals that represent targeted groups who can use a particular authority to be eligible to apply to positions or become more highly ranked among applicants.

Some of the more common special hiring authorities used for U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service careers include preference for veterans, current federal employees, students and recent graduates (i.e. Pathways), and individuals with disabilities.

Review the full list of hiring paths, descriptions of each, and how they can be used.
