BEE Teaching Seminar: Dr. Ashish Manandhar (PhD) from The Ohio State University Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering will give the teaching seminar "Life Cycle Assessment: Uncovering environmental impacts for informed decision-making" at 1:15 P.M. on March 7th in KEC1003.

 

BEE Research Seminar: Dr. Ashish Manandhar (PhD) from The Ohio State University Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering will give the research seminar "Waste upcycling and Sustainability assessment: Efforts towards creating sustainable food and agricultural systems" at 10:00 A.M. on March 8th in KEC1005.

 

Water Resources Policy and Management Thesis Defense: You are welcome to attend the thesis defense of Laura Mathieu, MS WRPM candidate. She will present "Bonds Across Divides: Track III Diplomacy in Environmental Peacebuilding. A case study of EcoPeace Middle East in the Jordan Basin on Monday, March 18th, 2024, at 9:00 A.M. by Zoom or in-person in BURT193. Laura is advised by Laura Peters. 

 

 

CAS and CoF Leadership Academy, 2024-2025

All majors in CAS and CoF (CH and MB are in CoS/CAS) are encouraged to apply - our content isn't tailored to any specific major-we leave it up to you to take what you learn and apply it to your department. We are focused on delivering you leadership education that you can apply to your individual program.

 

The Leadership Academy consists of:

 

-A weekly seminar for the academic year (F'24, W'25, S'25) that meets Wednesdays from 4-5:50pm

-Seminars consist of self-assessments, workshops, guest speakers, panel speakers, book discussions, and networking

-Faculty mentor pairing for the entire year

-Opportunities to engage with alumni, industry, field, agency, and employer partners

-Transcript visible leadership education course

-Over $14,000 available in funds to students to further YOUR leadership goals

-LEAD stole to wear at graduation

Around Campus

Sustainability Town Hall: Carly Lettero, associate director of arts integration at PRAx and the director of Spring Creek Project, will be a keynote speaker at the upcoming Sustainability Town Hall, Corvallis's premier sustainability event hosted by the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition. The theme of this year's Town Hall is "The Arts: A Portal to Sustainability." The free event will be held 7 p.m., March 7 at the Alumni Center. Learn more and register here.

 

Dance celebration: Take time to let go, cut loose, and honor your movement expression in a welcoming space. We will move to engaging music and close with a meditative cool down. Registration open for OSU Out of the Darkness Campus Walk: "HOPE WALKS HERE." Walk with us to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. The Oregon State University Out of the Darkness Campus Walk will feature a resource fair, speakers, honor bead ceremony and campus walk. This event is a collaboration with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and is open to all. The walk starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 20, SEC Plaza. Wind Ensemble: My Hands Are a City: The Oregon State University Wind Ensemble presents My Hands Are a City, featuring music by Ivan Trevino, Catherine Likhuta, and Jonathan Newman's Symphony No. 1: My Hands Are A City; with poetry and photographs inspired by the music and created by OSU students and special guests, the Westview High School Wind Ensemble, Bobby Rathbone, conductor. March 5 at LaSells Stewart Center. Tickets can be purchased online; general public – $10, OSU student – free.

Peer Tutoring: The College of Engineering and College of Science offer free peer tutoring for a wide variety of courses. Check this webpage for more information and schedules - https://engineering.oregonstate.edu/current-students/academic-support.

 

Printing: The College of Engineering Information Technology no longer offers poster printing services. Large format printing requests should be directed to the OSU Media Hub. Students are allowed to print one poster per assignment, conference, research project, etc. If you’re planning on utilizing this service, then remember to submit your requests in advance since printing requests have a 48-hour lead time.

 

Free student contraceptive care: Want free contraceptive care? Oregon ContraceptiveCare (CCare) is a program funded through a grant from the Centers for Medicaid Services and the Oregon Department of Human Services that allows Student Health Services (SHS) to provide free reproductive health care and contraceptive services to OSU students with certain income criteria. Most students qualify. Sign up for CCare by calling SHS at 541-737-9140.

OSU Assist: Mobile Crisis Response OSU Assist is a multi-disciplinary support team that provides compassionate mobile crisis response and wraparound services for students facing mental health challenges or experiencing other forms of distress. This team brings together new personnel and existing university services to support students facing challenges. By calling 911 or 541-737-7000, OSU Assist will be dispatched in crisis situations that meet certain criteria. This could include instances of suicide ideation, substance abuse issues, survivors seeking support and welfare checks. The team provides serve on the Corvallis campus from Wednesday through Sunday, 1 p.m. to 1 a.m., with hours anticipated to expand in future terms. For more information on this service, visit our website, contact Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Student Care Services Aubrie Piper or attend one of the informational sessions noted below.

Anytime Anywhere: MySSP @ OSU App

This app gives all OSU students, including Ecampus students, 24/7 access by text or phone with a licensed mental health counselor (MySSP stands for “My Student Support Program”). The app makes it easy to schedule short-term counseling appointments with the same ongoing counselor and provides educational materials covering mental health topics. Students can communicate with a counselor in five different languages (Mandarin, Cantonese, French, Spanish or English); additional language options are available upon request. Students can download the Anytime Anywhere: MySSP @ OSU and learn more about the service at beav.es/anytimeanywhere. For questions, please contact Bonnie Hemrick, Director of Mental Health Promotion.

 

Togetherall: A new mental health resource for OSU students. Togetherall is a safe and anonymous online community where students can share about what they are feeling and get support to improve mental health and well-being. Eat Free: @eatfreeosu is a Twitter account managed by the Human Services Resource Center student team. This account broadcasts information about open events on campus that also have food available. If your event is closed, but you have extra food, a message can be crafted asking students to show up at the end of your event. Event organizers can tag @eatfreeosu or call 541-737-3747 during business hours to request their event be posted on the account.
