Hi Khrystal,
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to follow up on the email I sent last week as the application deadline has been
extended to 2/24.
Since we don’t know each other, let me briefly introduce myself. I’m Karen Byrd, and I work as the Research Administrator and Outreach Coordinator for the USDA-funded
Center
for Food Conservation and Waste Reduction (CFCWR).
The Center’s goal is to co-create strategies to reduce household food waste and improve nutrition security in communities across the US.
As mentioned in the prior email, we are collaborating with Dr. Jared Hibbard-Swanson, Oregon State University Extension Service, to offer Oregon State students an opportunity to earn a
Food Equity Specialist Certificate by completing a 9-week synchronous online course and participating in a
PAID research project to understand household food waste in the Corvallis community. Students who complete this will also be able to apply for mini-grants to improve food waste and nutrition security in the Corvallis community.
We think this is a unique opportunity for students to learn more about all three pillars of the land grant mission, make a difference in the Corvallis community, and set themselves apart in
job interviews. We would appreciate any help spreading the word to students who may be interested.
I am including links to our recruitment
flyer,
video, and
student application for
more information; these materials can also be shared with students directly. We also have a
graphic that
can be used on social media. The application deadline has been extended to midnight, Monday, February 24.
Again, we would appreciate your help in sharing this information with Oregon State students! We are excited to start this program in the Corvallis community! If you have questions or would like
more information, please feel free to email me directly.
Sincerely,
Karen Byrd, Research Administrator and Outreach Coordinator, CFCWR
