The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) is looking to hire river restoration professionals based out of the Columbia-Pacific Northwest Regional Office in Boise, Idaho, and another in John Day, OR. Reclamation contributes to the implementation of salmonid habitat improvement projects to help meet commitments contained in Biological Opinions. We are seeking passionate, knowledgeable, hardworking people that can add to our groups’ skills and abilities – people who are open minded, willing to learn, and excited to help continue our successful history of project implementation. The incumbents will provide technical, engineering, contracting, or program-level oversight on river restoration projects throughout the intermountain Pacific Northwest.

Both the Tributary Habitat Program (THP) and the River Systems and Restoration (RSR) Group are seeking multiple Civil Engineers. The work will vary by group and position. Within the Tributary Habitat Program (generally more policy/program/planning level) there are two or more positions to be filled.

The River Systems and Restoration Group is design and technical work focused. The positions entail designing, implementing, and monitoring large- and small-scale river restoration projects to benefit juvenile salmonids. Field work may include site assessment, data collection, surveying, discharge measurements, and construction observation. Office work typically includes developing topo-bathymetric surface models, hydrologic analysis, hydraulic modeling, river channel and habitat structure design, streambed sediment design, drafting in AutoCAD Civil3D, GIS analyses, and reporting.

Here are examples of our projects and project partners’ websites, which demonstrate the wonderful work we do, the remarkable people we work with, and the amazing places we get to work.

Contacting us is encouraged! Please, feel free to call or email any of us with questions or to learn more about the great work we do. I am available to talk to your class and I would be interested in attending career fairs. I can answer questions about both groups, and you may also contact the group managers directly.

Thank you and please considering sharing the announcement within your sphere of influence!

Note* These positions are not yet open for application but are expected to be in the following weeks to month. Two announcements are expected, one for journey level engineers and another for junior level engineers and recent grads. We are hoping to catch graduating students and so are releasing this notice early. Expect a follow up email once these announcements are available on USAJOBS.

Sincerely,

Christopher
