Bio: Tyler has worked for RH2 Engineering, Inc. for the last 8 years, where he has had the pleasure of working on a variety of water resources related projects. He is a generalist with a focus on water resources engineering and has over 20 years of experience working both as a licensed PE, and under licensed PEs in a variety of other fields. He graduated from Humboldt State University in 2011 with a B.S. degree in Environmental Resources Engineering and is a registered Civil PE in Oregon and California.

 

Presentation Title: Retrofits to Revitalize Aging Infrastructure

 

Presentation Synopsis: Retrofitting aging facilities can be a cost-effective approach to extending infrastructure lifespan but requires careful design and often creative solutions for retrofit projects to be successful.

 

This presentation spotlights two past projects designed by RH2 Engineering that are now constructed. The first is the overhaul of Dunn Pump Station, the largest sewer lift station in the Rogue Valley, and the second is the retrofit of the Medford Wastewater Reclamation Facility’s (RWRF) biogas system. 

 

Through telling the stories of these two retrofit projects, we will touch on the retrofit design process, critical design elements, creative solutions, and other factors that make retrofit projects successful, as well as lessons learned and some intriguing points like avoiding a literal explosion at the Medford RWRF and the contractor electing to discharge raw sewage onto the Dunn Pump Station’s proclaimed “showroom finish”.
