Hi everyone, The Watershed Stewards Program (WSP)<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fccc.ca.go…> is currently accepting applications to participate in its 31st program year which runs from October 1, 2024 - August 14, 2025. WSP is a special program within the California Conservation Corps in partnership with AmeriCorps. We host two WSP Corpsmembers in the Planning Division each year where they work primarily with the Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program (SWAMP). WSP is a great entry level, career-building opportunity - just ask one of the many WSP alum working at our office. Please pass on this opportunity to anyone who may be interested. More information provided below: WSP is dedicated to improving watershed health by actively engaging in restoration science, civic service, and community education while empowering the next generation of environmental stewards. Benefits include a monthly living stipend, program sponsored-medical insurance, and a generous education award. A college degree is not required for this program. Corpsmembers placed at the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board work on a variety of field and office-based projects. Work will consist of assisting the GIS department in day-to-day operation and maintaining stormwater GIS databases and collecting field data. The position provides opportunities in professional growth and mentorship, foundational GIS technical skills, exposure to GIS technology and data processing techniques. Responsibilities: * Collaborate with a team on a variety of GIS projects * Design, create, analyze and maintain citywide GIS databases and datasets * Create effective and easy to read maps using ArcGIS software for paper and the web * Help develop geoprocessing automation models using related GIS software tools to update, maintain and analyze databases to ensure spatial integrity * Collect data in the field using ArcGIS mobile data collection tools * Manipulate geospatial data with great attention to detail and efficiency * Help provide technical GIS assistance to GIS users at the city * Assist in the implementation of MS4/TMDL programs. * Safely wade in streams and storm channels, traverse stream, and creek banks. * Navigate difficult terrain including creeks, streams, up and down stream banks, etc. * Perform duties as necessary or incidental to the proper performance of this position. * Comply with Safety Requirements including wearing proper safety equipment as required by OSHA and City policy. Period of Employment: This is a temporary position, 40 hours max per week, not to exceed 12 weeks. Start and end date are between June 1 and September 30, 2024. You can expect a weekly workload ranging between 30-40 hours/week. The work schedule is weekday, but also will include occasional early morning starts. All work performed during daylight hours. Compensation: $18-$21/hour dependent on skills and experience 75% of the time you will be in the office: You will be extensively using environmental mapping tools such as topographic maps, digital maps, mapping software and database applications. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) is looking to hire river restoration professionals based out of the Columbia-Pacific Northwest Regional Office in Boise, Idaho, and another in John Day, OR. Reclamation contributes to the implementation of salmonid habitat improvement projects to help meet commitments contained in Biological Opinions. We are seeking passionate, knowledgeable, hardworking people that can add to our groups' skills and abilities - people who are open minded, willing to learn, and excited to help continue our successful history of project implementation. The incumbents will provide technical, engineering, contracting, or program-level oversight on river restoration projects throughout the intermountain Pacific Northwest. Both the Tributary Habitat Program (THP) and the River Systems and Restoration (RSR) Group are seeking multiple Civil Engineers. The work will vary by group and position. Within the Tributary Habitat Program (generally more policy/program/planning level) there are two or more positions to be filled. * Habitat Engineer (multiple positions) - working with project partners across the PNW, supporting technical aspects of projects, developing project priorities and budgets, contracting, and other tasks. * John Day Liaison - working with local project partners in John Day, OR, becoming an expert in the basin, developing budgets and project priorities, contracting, supporting construction activities and implementation and other tasks. The River Systems and Restoration Group is design and technical work focused. The positions entail designing, implementing, and monitoring large- and small-scale river restoration projects to benefit juvenile salmonids. Field work may include site assessment, data collection, surveying, discharge measurements, and construction observation. Office work typically includes developing topo-bathymetric surface models, hydrologic analysis, hydraulic modeling, river channel and habitat structure design, streambed sediment design, drafting in AutoCAD Civil3D, GIS analyses, and reporting. OSU Energy Efficiency Center Would you be interested in an on-campus job working with industry clients to reduce energy use and improve productivity, while applying what you are learning in your classes? The OSU Energy Efficiency Center (EEC) is looking for motivated student energy analysts to work part-time during the school year (10-20 hrs/week) and during the summer (~40 hrs/week). The OSU EEC offers comprehensive, student-led, on-site energy and productivity assessments to small and medium-sized manufacturers through a US Department of Energy funded program. Student teams advised by engineering faculty visit manufacturers and seek ways to increase their productivity and reduce energy use and waste. These engineering analyses and improvement recommendations are compiled into a report and delivered to the client. It is a great way to see many different industrial processes and learn about ways to save energy. As a department, Biological & Ecological Engineering raised $8,432.25, and landed in 2nd place in the Team 1 Award Category! Congratulations, and thank you to everyone who helped support the food drive. In total, OSU raised $467,777.63, which beat last year. We are already so excited for next February’s Food Drive. Recipients will be students in any college at Oregon State University who are interested in developing the programs and operations of the HMSC iLab. Hi Everyone, The Clean Water Technology Initiative's REU Program for undergraduates will run again this summer. The program is aimed at students that have completed their 2nd or 3rd year at OSU and it is mainly for OSU students, as there are no funds available for living expenses or for travel. The CWI REU program will be a 10-week program during the summer (June 17 to August 23) for students that are interested in conducting hands-on and interdisciplinary research on how the field of engineering can contribute to clean water solutions. During the ten-week program, students will work with a faculty mentor and graduate student on a specific project and will develop research skills that will help facilitate graduate school opportunities. There will be $6,000 of funds available for each student, plus support for professional development activities via some lunch gatherings and a fieldtrip. We have 12 faculty members in CBEE and BEE sponsoring CWI REU projects. The application site is open as of today, and applications are due April 22nd, with responses back out by May 9th.
