Hi all! The Food Drive is underway at OSU and BEE is putting on some exciting events to raise money for the Linn Benton Food Share. Here are some of our upcoming events: This Week: * BEE Annual PB&J Bar: Stop by Gilmore Hall 116 between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. throughout the month of February to make your own PB&J. Suggested donation of $3. Many thanks to the generous bread donation from New Morning Bakery, which will allow the event to continue all month. * TOMORROW $1 Beverage Sale: Grab a coffee, tea or hot chocolate for $1 in Gilmore 116 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Feb. 7. We have a few awesome student research opportunities open in our lab if you wouldn't mind posting to MMM for dispersal? One is the VIEW Fellowship which is a selection of projects that students can choose from for a 10-week summer research experience (ours is the one at AAHL in Corvallis). This is specifically for students who are from underrepresented groups and there is flexibility for folks with irregular schedules or who manage health issues and such. Lots of lab work doing cool experiments with juvenile salmon! The other opportunity is for a field technician conducting fisheries surveys in rivers near La Grande, OR. This one is more field-based and we are looking for someone with at least a little bit of field experience, although that is not a hard requirement. Both are awesome opportunities to get some hands-on experience with fisheries research here at OSU. I have attached more info about each of them - folks can feel free to advertise widely in newsletters or job boards and encourage all interested students (from all majors) to apply! 2024 Food Drive-Looking for donations

Greetings Faculty, staff, students and alumni, During this time of year the Linn Benton Food Share<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.faceb…> is taxed extra hard with need from the community. They would never be able to provide the number of meals and services for our community without generous donations from those who can help. During the month of February the Oregon Governor's Food Drive takes place throughout state agencies across Oregon. Oregon State University is heavily involved, with events going on across campus to help raise funds. OSU is so successful in our endeavors that we actually provide about 20% of the budget to the Food Bank. We also donates hundreds of thousands of pounds of food each year from our various research stations. Every dollar we collect provides 3-4 meals from the community as LBFS maximizes these donations by purchasing items in bulk. They wouldn't be able to do all they do without the amazing Linn Benton community!! Last year, with the help from generous donations from our students, staff, faculty and alumni, BEE took 2nd place for our team size. This year we're trying to take 1st from the 6th floor of Kerr, but we need your help!! We are currently looking for donations for various events we have in Gilmore Hall for the fundraising COMPETITION! If you have a product, gift certificate, art piece, service, anything you would like to offer up, please reach out. I do several events thanks to donations from the community including PB&J station in our main office, cookie decorating (both thanks to New Morning Bakery<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.faceb…>), a raffle and a flea market. Other departments also do things like cooking classes, so if you have a skill you would like to share for a small donation for the participants we can help organize that too! About us: The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country. Program Description: The AFWO houses four programs: Ecological Services, Fisheries and Aquatic Conservation, Habitat Restoration, and Science Applications. Our work spans the beautiful towering redwoods of northwestern California, the foggy shores of the Pacific, and includes majestic watersheds such as the Klamath River. The major duties of interns will be conducting breeding season surveys of the federally threatened distinct population segment of western snowy plover (Charadrius nivosus nivosus) throughout Humboldt County. Surveys require determining population estimates of breeding adults, recording color band combinations of individual plovers, locating nests and recording nest fates, observing western snowy plover chicks through fledging, public outreach, and entering survey data into databases. Other duties will involve assisting with the creation of a range-wide western snowy plover database, analyzing data, helping to manage files and records, and working with other state, federal, and public partners.The Arcata Fish and Wildlife Office in Humboldt County, California is offering two, paid SCA internships to work with western snowy plovers during the 2024 breeding season!
