It is an incredibly difficult and unimaginable time of grief, but one thing that has been requested that would be helpful is a meal train. As part of our continued success, Landau Associates is seeking an Early Career Environmental Engineer / Civil Engineer. This position will be based in one of the following locations: Seattle, WA, Tacoma, WA, Olympia, WA, or Portland, OR. The successful candidate will initially be responsible for performing a wide range of environmental and civil engineering tasks. This may include: * Conducting industrial facility inspections, assessing pollutant source control best management practices (BMPs), and preparing stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs) * Supporting technical evaluation of data, conducting regulatory file reviews, assessing industrial stormwater permit compliance, and assisting clients with BMP or treatment improvements * Performing site development permitting and engineering design tasks related to project / site feasibility, drainage review and reporting, erosion control, and grading * Performing quantity take-offs and cost estimating * Assisting with developing engineering plans and specifications under the guidance of a Professional Engineer * Assisting in the production of discharge monitoring report submittals and technical reports * Preparing written documentation for permit applications * Implementing field activities, such as: o Stormwater, groundwater, soil gas, wastewater, soil, and sediment sample collection o Operation and maintenance of existing stormwater treatment systems * Supporting compliance assessment, management, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes * Preparing scope and cost estimates for environmental consulting support Travel within the Pacific NW region and occasional early morning, evening or weekend work may be required. Qualifications: * B.S. or M.S. in environmental, civil, or chemical engineering with related coursework in hydraulics and hydrology, environmental chemistry, and/or wastewater treatment * 1-4 years of relevant professional experience * Registration as an EIT or PE is required * Strong technical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills are required * Knowledge and experience with State and Federal environmental regulations in the Pacific Northwest is preferred Landau Associates offers an excellent compensation and benefits package in an environment that promotes personal growth and professional advancement. Hi all, we have a great line up of speaker’s this quarter for our Spring Water Resources Science series. This series is co-organized with Portland State University and the US Geological Survey Oregon Water Science Center. All talks this quarter will be at 4 PM on Wednesdays in Burt Hall room 193 and on zoom. Please join us! This week's speaker on April 10th is Alan Kasprak, a Research Physical Scientist with the US EPA in Corvallis. Dr. Kasprak is new to Corvallis, he was last at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. He has degrees in Watershed Sciences, Earth Sciences, and Geology and Geophysics. His talk title is "Flow alteration, river valley morphology, and the influence of Glen Canyon Dam on sediment availability along the Colorado River in Grand Canyon." A description is below. Changes in the magnitude, duration, and timing of streamflow affect the entirety of watersheds, from the channel itself to upland landscapes far from the river. In this seminar, I'll detail how hydrologic alteration, driven by the construction and operation of Glen Canyon Dam on the Colorado River, has led to cascading impacts on upland and riparian landscapes and ecosystems throughout Grand Canyon. A particular focus will be placed on the use of remote sensing techniques, including sonar, lidar, and photogrammetry for monitoring and predicting sediment connectivity and landscape change in a drastically altered hydrologic setting. I'll additionally detail alternative flow regimes and future opportunities for hydrologic restoration that may lead to ecosystem recovery at river corridor scales in one of America's iconic landscapes. BEE Student Satisfaction Survey and Open Forum

Hello BEE community! This is Brooke Donaty, the Student Senator for BEE on Engineering Student Council. My main job in this position is to support students within the BEE department, and one of the ways I do this is by getting feedback from the students currently in the program. Attached to this email is a student satisfaction survey used to determine how the year has gone for you all, how the BEE department has helped students feel supported, and what can be changed about the department to help solve issues students are currently having. It should only take about 15 minutes to fill out, and it would be awesome if you all could provide the department with feedback, as it really helps us improve in supporting students. On Wednesday of Week 10 at 3:00 PM I plan on holding an open forum for all BEE students and faculty to provide a safe space for students to discuss the feedback received on this form and any other issues they are currently having with the department. This forum is being held to help students, and nothing discussed at the forum will be used to retaliate against student complaints to ensure that we are getting all feedback the students have to offer, both good and bad. Food will be provided, and it should last about an hour. Until then, I hope you all fill out my survey, as the feedback you provide here is extremely valuable and helpful for both the department and you the students. Below is a link to the form.
