A course announcement (ECE 499, a course on statistical inference/learning)

Dear all, Hope you are all having a great summer. I would like to let you know about a new course to be offered* on campus* in the fall term: *ECE 499 Statistical Signal Processing*. This is an updated version of the course that I have taught in the past three years. In this course, I will teach fundamentals of statistical methods that are essential for EECS students (detection, estimation, and statistical learning). This course is targeted for two groups of students: (i) engineering students interested in learning about statistical inference approaches (including machine learning) and how they are applied to solve various problems, and (ii) CS students who want to learn about classical detection and estimation theory and the statistical perspective of machine learning (note that ML is essentially about making a statistical inference). The prerequisites include basic background in probability (ECE 353 or ST314) and familiarity with Python or MATLAB. Please see the attached flyer for the detailed information. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. Best, Jinsub Kim -- Jinsub Kim Asst. Professor, School of EECS, Oregon State University 3011 Kelley Engineering Center, Corvallis, OR 97331 Email: jinsub.kim@oregonstate.edu / Tel. 541-737-3304 Web: http://web.engr.oregonstate.edu/~kimjinsu/

Hi all, This is a friendly reminder about the new course offering. I am glad to let you know that the course is now *crosslisted as CS499*. You can take this course *either as ECE499 or as CS499*, depending on your need. For CS students: the course does not require any background in ECE. The only prerequisite is basic probability (ST314). I wanted to clarify this because I received this question multiple times. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. Hope you all have a good start of the term. Best, Jinsub Kim On Fri, Sep 3, 2021 at 1:25 PM Kim, Jinsub <kimjinsu@oregonstate.edu> wrote:
