Dear students:
I’m deeply saddened to share that a member of the College of Engineering community, Eric Ruiz Cortes, passed away on Friday, November 8 in a car accident. Eric was a Junior in our Computer Science
program, an officer in the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and a respected member of our community. We mourn this devastating loss and share our deepest condolences and support with his friends, family and loved ones. We recognize this news may
be very difficult to receive and are here to support you.
There will be a community gathering in honor of Eric on Thursday, November 21st from 4:00 – 5:00 PM in Johnson Hall 219 hosted by Counseling & Psychological Services. This space will
be an informal opportunity to remember, grieve, and support one another during this difficult time. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend. We will share details of any services or wishes of the family as those details become available.
We recognize the loss of a fellow Beaver is incredibly challenging. We also acknowledge that you may be grieving over other difficulties over the past year. In the days ahead, we will reach out
to those who have been impacted by this news to connect them with resources for healing and support.
If you or someone you know are feeling the impacts of this loss of life or other matters, please reach out for support from trusted family and friends. Additional resources and support can be
found through the list below and attached resources:
There are many people and services within OSU available to help you through any step of your grieving process. We feel the loss of each member of our community deeply and ask for your help in
caring for each other during this time of grief.
Sincerely,
Thomas Weller, Ph.D.
