We hope your fall term is off to a good start. We want to send you our personal greetings and well wishes along with some policy reminders and a few imminent deadlines. We like to keep you informed of what lies ahead and do our best not to overload you with messages. However, if you have not heard from us in a while, sometimes our messages will end up in your junk folders. Please check there so you are not missing any deadlines or changes. IMPORTANT FALL TERM DEADLINES We have listed some important deadlines for the fall term. All submission deadlines are due by 11:55pm, Pacific Time. Last day to add or drop a course and receive a 100% tuition refund (no W grade entered on transcript) October 3, 2021 Last day to add a class by Web with departmental approval October 10, 2021 Last day to Withdraw from a course and receive a 50% tuition refund (W grade entered on transcript.) October 17, 2021 Last day to Withdraw from course (No Refund Available) Deadline to S/U a course (Bac-core only) November 12, 2021 Last day to Withdraw from Term (No Refund, W grade entered on transcript) International Students need to start the process 3-4 days prior to this date. December 3, 2021 1. Considering whether to drop a class or withdraw from the term? a. With a wide variety of components, we are sure to have what you need to complete your homebrew electronics project! What’s new at the ResiSTORE? They include after-hours access to the store for your own projects, learning about electronics (from customers and fellow volunteers), being part of the community, and more! College of Engineering "Cookies & Clubs" Fair Tuesday, September 21, 2-4 pm Engineering Community Plaza (between Johnson Hall and Kelley Engineering Center) The Engineering Student Council invites you to Cookies and Clubs, the OSU College of Engineering annual club fair, which takes place Tuesday, September 21st from 2pm-4pm. This is your opportunity to learn about the 50+ clubs and student organizations within the College of Engineering. This year, there will be an in-person and virtual version of the event. The in-person event will take place at the Engineering Community Plaza between Kelley Engineering Center and Johnson Hall. Dear all, Hope you are all having a great summer. I would like to let you know about a new course to be offered* on campus* in the fall term: *ECE 499 Statistical Signal Processing*. This is an updated version of the course that I have taught in the past three years. In this course, I will teach fundamentals of statistical methods that are essential for EECS students (detection, estimation, and statistical learning). This course is targeted for two groups of students: (i) engineering students interested in learning about statistical inference approaches (including machine learning) and how they are applied to solve various problems, and (ii) CS students who want to learn about classical detection and estimation theory and the statistical perspective of machine learning (note that ML is essentially about making a statistical inference). The prerequisites include basic background in probability (ECE 353 or ST314) and familiarity with Python or MATLAB. Please see the attached flyer for the detailed information. REU POSITION "Web-Based REPL Framework" We are offering up to two paid REU (research experience for undergrads) positions in the intersection of the areas web development and programming languages. Undergraduate researcher position (adversarial machine learning)

Hi all, Prof. Raviv Raich and I are looking for a couple of undergraduate student researchers (hourly paid, $15/hour, up to 20 hours per week) for a cutting-edge project on adversarial machine learning (ML). The positions will remain open until filled. The hired students can start immediately. In this project, we aim to develop a robust machine learning approach for sensors-to-decisions systems (e.g., an autonomous driving system) in the presence of an adversary who falsifies the input data to alter the ML decisions. The tasks include: - Developing visualization techniques that provide a user with auxiliary information such that the user can be guided to make robust decisions in the presence of an attack. - Perform experiments to evaluate and validate the visualization techniques. Qualifications: - Knowledge of machine learning (past experience with a machine learning related project is a plus) - Experience in coding with Python (Experience in using PyTorch is a plus) Requirement: - Only US citizens are eligible This position is funded through the Naval Engineering Education Consortium (NEEC). Undergraduate students involved in the project will be given an advantage in applying for full-time/internship positions at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane, Indiana or other suitable naval warfare centers nationwide.
