iINVENT is a FREE summer camp designed for rural Oregon youth! 

Work with OSU college students as invention mentors who will guide you in creating something that enhances the quality of life of someone else.  You will select a user for your invention project, work with a college mentor, meet new friends, and gain access to exclusive engineering design challenges and college connection events.  Become an inventor, meet college students, and learn about Oregon State University! 

Work as an invention mentor traveling Oregon to facilitate invention education programs with middle school youth!

This recruitment will be used to fill 10-12 part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week during academic terms and up to 40 hours per week during academic breaks) Invention Education Mentor positions to fill the need of Precollege Programs’ Invention Education program at Oregon State University (OSU).

As an Invention Education Mentor, you will participate in all Precollege Programs that offer Invention Education activities (e.g. College Field Trips at OSU, summer camps for middle school youth).The program is offered between spring and the end of summer. There are opportunities to continue with Precollege Programs Invention Education team into the Fall.


Mentors are responsible for attending ALL training sessions. You will be trained to support each program and youth. You will be provided a work schedule when each program is in session and how many hours you can expect to work. During programs, mentors will run all program related activities (e.g. check-in, morning updates, am/pm snack, invention lessons, closing camp, etc).

Programs run from Spring to Summer, and are concluded by the beginning of Fall academic term.

Mentors are required to have a valid motor vehicle license and have it remain in good standing for the duration of the programs. Passing a motor vehicle check will be required.


Invention Education Mentors will gain the experience of running and leading invention programs for middle school students throughout Oregon, providing valuable job experience, professional development, and an opportunity to travel through the beautiful Beaver state.


Training

Training starts spring term. You will have opportunities to lead invention education activities with the Campus Field Trip Program and complete a canvas training course.


Middle School Summer Camps

Summer camps take place away from Oregon State University along the Oregon coast, Willamette Valley, and Eastern Oregon. Mentors are expected to work 40 hours per week while camps are in session. Mentors will be provided a van to commute from OSU to close by camps (e.g. LBCC), and a van, lodging, and meals for camps that are further away (e.g. Eastern Oregon). When overnight travel is required, mentors are expected to leave the Sunday before camps start, stay overnight in shared accommodations, and return to OSU Friday after camp.
