
The Research and Innovation Department is currently seeking an intern for its molecular biology laboratory (m.lab). The Research and Innovation Department (R&I) conducts projects to promote the development and engagement of new technologies and innovative operations at Clean Water Services. The m.lab uses genomic technologies to address challenges in ambient water quality, biological wastewater treatment, and biodiversity assessment for watershed health. Additional Internship Information: * Temporary position, 14 month assignment. * Full-time, up to 40 hours per week. * The hours worked and duration for this position may qualify for an offer of Healthcare insurance benefits. * Temporary positions are not eligible for paid holidays or paid vacation time off. * Any offer of employment will be conditional upon the successful completion of a driving record review, passing a physical exam and a criminal background check. Essential Functions (The essential functions listed below are not intended to reflect all duties that may be assigned to this classification. The District may augment duties and/or essential functions at its discretion. Additionally, some incumbents may not perform all Essential Functions.) This position will assist with assigned research projects, directed by senior personnel. The role will include laboratory work as well as provide support for field sampling efforts. Example duties may include processing wastewater and surface water samples for genetic analyses; preparing and organizing supplies for a field sampling campaign; or conducting a literature review on an assigned topic. Previous hands-on laboratory experience with PCR and/or traditional microbiology techniques preferred. Previous field sampling experience highly preferred. Work will be located at the Durham Water Resource Recovery Facility in Tigard, coupled with local travel for field sampling.
