Job Responsibilities/Duties Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) is the tank farm operating contractor at the Hanford Site located in Richland, WA. The WRPS mission is to safely store, retrieve, and treat 53 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste. This complex mission spans all competencies of engineering/science accomplished through a highly integrated engineering organization consisting of over 300 engineers. Hanford was established to produce the world's first atomic bomb in the Second World War and continued producing plutonium for the Cold War efforts from 1945 to 1991. Washington River Protection Solutions' mission is to safely handle the byproduct of this massive operation, and to ensure a clean environment for future generations. This position is for an early career engineer to support integrity monitoring of the underground waste tanks. Previous work experience in Liquid Observation Well (LOW) data monitoring, usage of gamma and neutron ray data probes or experience with Ultrasonic Testing (UT) or other methods of Nondestructive Evaluations (NDE) is a plus but not required. Previous work experience could be substituted for a willingness to learn this technology. The LOWs are used to monitor the interstitial liquid levels in the Single Shell Tanks (SSTs). UT data is used to assess the condition of the Double Shell Tanks and pipelines This position supports the Tank and Pipeline Integrity & Tank Monitoring Engineering team and will work closely with other engineers, project managers and internal/external agencies. The candidate should be a motivated engineer interested in joining a high performing team focused on data analysis, worker safety and deploying innovative engineering solutions to tank monitoring challenges. This position will work closely with all members (13-15 engineers) of the Tank and Pipeline Integrity organization and support the diverse projects of the entire team. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to advance and grow in this role with increasing levels of responsibility and autonomy. The engineer will work closely with senior engineers and support the Tank Monitoring program as a LOW data analyst along with supporting the integrity program NDE efforts through the use of robotic crawlers and UT sensors. The engineer should have experience (with support of senior engineers) working in groups, authoring technical reports and preparing presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences. Tasks include analyzing data, preparation of quarterly and end of year reports, and working with the team to develop existing and future technologies to advance the program. Additional task includes performing field walk downs, interfacing with craft/field crews, presenting to Department of Energy, developing Statement of Work (SOW) as well as working with various internal and external design A&E and fabrication vendors. The engineer will be expected to complete WRPS' Engineering Technical Staff qualification card. Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering or successful completion of degree by June 30, 2022. Desired Qualifications BS in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Experience in the nuclear industry, preferably at Department of Energy (DOE) site.
