Job Qualifications & Key Functions:
Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Perform production process optimization and technical problem solving (cost, quality, reliability, production) consistent with NORPAC improvement goals
- Support Production Management Team identifying specific areas of improvement from Goals and Plans
- Prepare project scope for process trial plans and optimization efforts
- Implement project (coordinate with operators assuring safety in planning and during implementation)
- Coordinate/interface with suppliers, laboratories for testing
- Document results utilizing appropriate statistically sound reasoning
- Recommend changes or improvements to process and/or process equipment
- Facilitate, develop, and hands on support of production personnel in problem solving
- Act as the focal point for supplier contact with NORPAC for area equipment and related chemistry performance
- Lead/facilitate evaluation of supplier proposals for production team
- Represent production in negotiations with suppliers in accord with purchasing
- Lead in review of supplier contract performance
- Lead in follow-up work resulting from supplier proposals or trials
- Strong capital project input; i.e. project definition -- study feasibility in concert with project engineer, involvement in scoping, design, implementation, commissioning, and start-up
- Participate in and support new product development activities
- Search for new technologies to advance pulp and paper making at NORPAC in quality, facilitate reduced costs and improve productivity
- Investigate new process instrumentation to improve process controls
- Lead or actively participate in problem solving mill-wide process concerns
Required Qualifications and Key Skills:
- B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Pulp & Paper Technology and/or related filed
- Knowledge of Thermomechanical Pulping, Recycled Fiber Processing, and Paper Making process concepts.
- Strong knowledge of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering fundamentals and Pulp & Paper Technical Concepts
- Basic process control theory knowledge and application experience
- Computer and problem-solving skills
- Exposure to 6-sigma, lean manufacturing, and design of experiments methodologies
- Competent in technical writing skills, quality improvement, lean manufacturing, and reliability improvement concepts
- Able to effectively work with maintenance, technical and operating teams to achieve mill goals and objectives
- Able to supervise projects and resources
- Good team member
- Action-oriented and results-focused person, with the ability to flow to work
- Able to thrive in an autonomous, empowered, self-driven, and rapidly evolving and improving work environment
Desirable:
- 2-3 years’ experience preferred in manufacturing and/or similar environment
- Experience with Packaging Paper processes a plus.
