
Oregon State University Fisheries and Wildlife Department is seeking at student worker to assist Crater Lake National Park with removal of nonnative fish from headwater streams in the southern Oregon Cascades. Duties will include backpack electrofishing in wadable streams, collecting environmental DNA samples, aquatic macroinvertebrate sampling, and possibly assisting with treatment of a stream with piscicide. The work is almost entirely outdoors and involves arduous physical activity (e.g., hiking off trail, wading in streams, carrying heavy backpacks). The student worker will work as a member of a crew composed of National Park Service employees. Required skills are enthusiasm, an ability to hike (up to 10 miles per day), ability to carry a backpack weighing up to 35 pounds, and an interest in fish or aquatic ecology. Shared housing within Crater Lake National Park will be provided at no cost. Pay: $18/hr, plus housing.
