2024 Summer Intern - Cell Therapy Process Engineer Department Summary In this position, you will need to work effectively as part of a team responsible for furthering the frontier of cell therapies. This will require the application of technical and strategic expertise in science, engineering, and process knowledge to support the production of licensed therapies and pipeline products, as well as enable new technologies. This internship position is located in HILLSBORO, Oregon Key Responsibilities * Learn various cell culture techniques, including feeding, freezing, thawing, and harvesting, using proper aseptic techniques as well as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) * Execute a hands-on study in the MSAT lab to support process understanding and improve operations on the floor * Collaborate cross functionally with Process Development, Analytical Development, Manufacturing teams to design and execute the experiment and interpret the data. * Draft a study report and communicate final results to the project stakeholders. * Participate in team meetings and shadow on-the-floor manufacturing activities. * Support MSAT data management and documentation. Program Highlights * Intensive 10-12 weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship. * Program start dates are in May/June. * Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects. * Work with cutting edge technology in the biotechnology industry. * Final presentations of project work to senior leaders. * Professional & personal development curriculum throughout the program, including networking opportunities, workshops, and panel discussions. * Participate in volunteer projects, social events, and team-building activities. The application deadline is January 9, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. EST. Through SULI and CCI, undergraduate students and recent graduates discover science and technology careers at the DOE national laboratories and gain the experience needed to transition from intern to employment. Interns work directly with national laboratory scientists and engineers, assisting them on research or technology projects that support the DOE mission. SULI is open to full-time students attending 4-year institutions and community colleges or recent graduates within two years of receiving their bachelor’s degree or associate degree, while CCI is exclusively for community college students. Both programs are stipend-based and offered three times annually in Fall, Spring, and Summer terms. Three workshops are planned to provide strategies for submitting a compliant application and learn about the internship experience from the voices of CCI and SULI alumni. GSI Water Solutions, Inc. (GSI), is an employee-owned hydrogeologic and environmental consulting firm headquartered in Portland, Oregon. As hydrogeologists, engineers, environmental scientists, and water experts, we focus on helping our clients protect our shared natural resources. We help develop and manage environmental resources and ensure the long-term sustainability and reliability of this invaluable resource. As an example, we have long been a champion of using aquifer storage and recovery technologies to save water for drought conditions and provide environmental benefits to fish and streams which may be impacted by development and climate change. Our environmental work primarily focuses on large scale sediment and upland remediation projects in the Oregon and Washington area. We are currently developing a remedial design for a Project Area within the Portland Harbor Superfund Site, one of the largest contaminated sediment sites in the nation, as well as an ecologically sensitive, tidally influenced sediment site at another location in Oregon. Both require careful consideration of how climate change may impact the remedy. The ideal candidate is a skilled geologist or engineer who will support a thriving and growing base of assessment and remediation projects in Oregon and Washington.
