The Plant Engineering organization provides engineering oversight, program support, and qualified staff to support the Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) mission. Near term support is provided by the Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC). The mission includes safely storing, treating, and immobilizing the highly hazardous radiological wastes created during prior periods of nuclear processing at the Hanford Reservation. The Plant Engineering organization and programs provide the framework for executing engineering work. Plant Engineering personnel are responsible for the technical adequacy of Plant Engineering products and decisions. Rotational Engineers will be in a two-year program in which they will rotate through various groups within Plant Engineering, completing assignments, and gaining experience. Assignments will include resolution of technical challenges, completing engineering work products, review of other's completed work products, and working in a team mindset to help accomplish the goals of Plant Engineering and WTCC. Rotational assignments may include System Engineer, Procurement Engineer, Project Engineer, Flowsheet Engineer, and Design Engineer positions, depending on individual skills, desires, and group needs. It is expected that rotational engineers will challenge themselves and grow their professional capabilities as they begin their engineering careers, becoming ever more valuable members of the Engineering team. Upon completion of this program, these engineers will be eligible for advancement and are expected to be placed into open positions within Plant Engineering or may apply to other positions within the WTP project. This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS * Implement Plant Engineering program elements as assigned * Develop, review, concur with and/or assess engineering technical documents * Develop, review, concur with and/or assess management control procedures, technical procedures, or guides * Assess facilities, systems, and/or processes anomalies or degraded conditions * Resolve condition report issues or other similar discrepancies as assigned * Develop or request support to develop engineering products for system or equipment repair or replacement * Provide on-site technical support during preventative or corrective maintenance activities or commissioning * Assist assigned engineers in determining operability and correcting out-of-specification conditions * Ensure the health and safety of self and staff by implementing the principles of Integrated Safety Management System * Ensure that personal conduct of work is consistent with nuclear safety and quality culture expectations * Meet training requirements and maintain qualifications to perform work * Support control of field work in assigned areas, including integration of project activities, repairs, and equipment operations activities * Support operations, maintenance, and commissioning of the WTP Facilities * Remain apprised of operational status and ongoing modification activities * Provide technical review of facility/system related procedures and work instructions * Assist with resolution of design issues necessary to support plant operations and/or maintenance * Review Project design and other documents for operations, maintenance, and testing impacts and providing alternative solutions * Interface with subcontractors, vendors, and project support groups * Ensures timely and accurate oral and written technical reports on assigned activities * Complete required training and maintain qualifications associated with assignments * Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work to protect self, others, and the environment This job description is not intended to include every duty, task, or instruction for which an employee is responsible. NIH Biomedical Engineering Summer Internship Program (BESIP) opens in Nov 2025

The Biomedical Engineering Summer Internship Program (BESIP) is hosted by the BETA Center<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nibib…>, an NIH-wide organization housed in the NIBIB intramural research program. The BETA Center was formed in 2023 to leverage advances in biomedical engineering and related disciplines to accelerate technology-driven interdisciplinary research and clinical translation in the IRP, and now has affiliate members with engineering and imaging expertise including biomedical imaging, biosensing, biomechanics, engineered/synthetic biology, nano/biomaterials, artificial intelligence, modeling, computation, and informatics. Central to BETA Center's mission is employing evidence-driven approaches to expand diversity, equity, and inclusion within NIBIB's Intramural Research Program and serving as a model for recruiting diverse biomedical engineering talent to NIH. Students interested in biomedical engineering research will come to the NIH campus from June 2, 2025 to August 8, 2025 for an intensive in-person research experience. The internship allows students to participate in cutting-edge biomedical research projects under the mentorship of world-class scientists and engineers in NIH laboratories in Bethesda, MD. Our company's Pharmaceutical Sciences organization translates molecules to medicines, working from the discovery interface through registration stability manufacturing by designing, developing and scaling-up the formulation, device, and manufacturing process. Driving drug product design from the bench top to the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) manufacturing facilities, our Scientists use cutting edge science to transform drug delivery and manufacturing technology to positively impact patients. The successful candidate will be a passionate Scientist with strong academic fundamentals and a drive to develop new medicines to improve human health. In this role, the individual will be responsible for supporting the formulation development of new chemical entities as part of a matrix team from initial first in human formulations (suspensions, solutions, capsules, tablets) through final market formulation definition and manufacturing process robustness assessment. Additional responsibilities are as follows: * Develops and applies basic principles and scientific concepts to execute work in a laboratory or pilot plant environment to advance new solid oral drug products. * Capability to support manufacturing operations in non-GMP and GMP environments. * Executes routine experiments and data interpretation with appropriate technical guidance. * Ability to operate and trouble shoot equipment and processes. * Capable of learning practical laboratory/pilot plant skills and fundamental scientific principles to utilize as part of their daily responsibilities. * Can understand overall project timelines to manage prioritization of individual contributor deliverables with appropriate supervision. * Works well with others in collaborative team environments. * Builds awareness of relevant new and current technologies to grow as a pharmaceutical scientist. Education Minimum Requirement: * B.S. or M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related discipline (expected no later than June 2025). Primary Responsibilities * Safety Focus: Promote safety in all aspects of operations to improve the safety record at this facility and throughout the company; includes work performed by contractors. * Process Design & Optimization: Develop and optimize chemical processes, ensuring efficiency, safety, and sustainability. * Support: Provide support for daily production activities by monitoring process performance, trouble-shooting problems, ordering replacement parts and as needed, implementing corrective actions. * Continuous Improvement: Evaluate, recommend, and implement improvements to plant processes and operating procedures. * Project Management: Lead and manage engineering projects from conception to execution, including cost estimation, equipment sizing and specifying, permitting, and scheduling. * Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all processes comply with industry regulations and standards, including safety, health, and environmental guidelines. * Collaboration: Work closely with production, quality assurance, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot process issues and improve workflows. * Documentation: Prepare piping and instrumentation diagrams (PID), process flow diagrams (PFD's), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) and adhere to proper management of change (MOC) procedures. * Training & Support: Provide technical support and training to operational staff on process and equipment usage. * Incident Investigation: Participate in the investigation and corrective actions efforts for your assigned manufacturing processes. Required Qualifications * A bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or related fields. * 0-5 years of experience in industrial Process-Engineering and/or Project Engineering. * Excellent problem-solving skill and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. * Familiarity with safety standards and regulations. * Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. * Ability to size and specify equipment. * Basic knowledge and experience with PSM and RMP procedures. We are passionate about what we do and are looking for talented people who believe they can effect change and better our society and environment, one kilowatt-hour at a time. We are looking for four to six interns, ideally in the Carlsbad, Oakland and Pasadena, CA areas, to work part-time or full-time (20-40 hrs per week) providing support for a large utility's renewable energy program. Since 2001, AESC has completed thousands of self-generation incentive program (SGIP) application reviews and equipment verification field inspections in all the California investor-owned utilities service territories. AESC engineers inspect combined heat and power, fuel cell, electric and thermal energy storage, wind turbine, pressure reduction turbine and waste heat to power systems ranging in capacity from a few kilowatts to multiple megawatts. Selected interns will expand their knowledge of self-generation technologies as well as develop an in-depth understanding of the utility incentive process. Primary Responsibilities Review technical and administrative documents filed with the Self Generation Incentive Programs. These will include: * Project applications, equipment spec sheets, utility load documents, engineering calculations, etc. * Assess application documents using a checklist. * Write-up application deficiencies, and document revisions needed to complete the application in a review form. * Email review form for internal QC and final email of completed review form to utility. Qualifications * Must be working towards obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline. * Strong attention to detail, requires minimal supervision, excellent communication skills. * Possess good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with both coworkers and customers. * Compliance with all safety policies, practices and procedures. * Proficient PC skills including Microsoft Office suite. As part of our continued success, Landau Associates is seeking an Early Career Environmental Engineer / Civil Engineer. This position will be based in one of the following locations: Seattle, WA, Tacoma, WA, Olympia, WA, or Portland, OR. The successful candidate will initially be responsible for performing a wide range of environmental and civil engineering tasks. This may include: * Conducting industrial facility inspections, assessing pollutant source control best management practices (BMPs), and preparing stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs) * Supporting technical evaluation of data, conducting regulatory file reviews, assessing industrial stormwater permit compliance, and assisting clients with BMP or treatment improvements * Performing site development permitting and engineering design tasks related to project / site feasibility, drainage review and reporting, erosion control, and grading * Performing quantity take-offs and cost estimating * Assisting with developing engineering plans and specifications under the guidance of a Professional Engineer * Assisting in the production of discharge monitoring report submittals and technical reports * Preparing written documentation for permit applications * Implementing field activities, such as: o Stormwater, groundwater, soil gas, wastewater, soil, and sediment sample collection o Operation and maintenance of existing stormwater treatment systems * Supporting compliance assessment, management, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes * Preparing scope and cost estimates for environmental consulting support Travel within the Pacific NW region and occasional early morning, evening or weekend work may be required. Qualifications: * B.S. or M.S. in environmental, civil, or chemical engineering with related coursework in hydraulics and hydrology, environmental chemistry, and/or wastewater treatment * 1-4 years of relevant professional experience * Registration as an EIT or PE is required * Strong technical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills are required * Knowledge and experience with State and Federal environmental regulations in the Pacific Northwest is preferred Landau Associates offers an excellent compensation and benefits package in an environment that promotes personal growth and professional advancement.
