We have projects on the paper machines, in the thermomechanical pulp mill, and in both recycle mills. With the startup of our second recycling facility this fall, this is an exciting time here at Norpac. I was just approved to bring in an additional engineering intern starting in a few weeks. This person will have the opportunity to work throughout the process and lead projects. The internship will be a 6-month internship starting in April 2022 and have the potential for an extension to a 1-year internship. The work will be full time at the site in Longview. The challenge is that I have a short turnaround date. So, I'm wondering if you could help me out on spreading the word. Job Responsibilities/Duties Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) is the tank farm operating contractor at the Hanford Site located in Richland, WA. The WRPS mission is to safely store, retrieve, and treat 53 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste. This complex mission spans all competencies of engineering/science accomplished through a highly integrated engineering organization consisting of over 300 engineers. Hanford was established to produce the world's first atomic bomb in the Second World War and continued producing plutonium for the Cold War efforts from 1945 to 1991. Washington River Protection Solutions' mission is to safely handle the byproduct of this massive operation, and to ensure a clean environment for future generations. This position is for an early career engineer to support integrity monitoring of the underground waste tanks. Previous work experience in Liquid Observation Well (LOW) data monitoring, usage of gamma and neutron ray data probes or experience with Ultrasonic Testing (UT) or other methods of Nondestructive Evaluations (NDE) is a plus but not required. Previous work experience could be substituted for a willingness to learn this technology. The LOWs are used to monitor the interstitial liquid levels in the Single Shell Tanks (SSTs). UT data is used to assess the condition of the Double Shell Tanks and pipelines This position supports the Tank and Pipeline Integrity & Tank Monitoring Engineering team and will work closely with other engineers, project managers and internal/external agencies. The candidate should be a motivated engineer interested in joining a high performing team focused on data analysis, worker safety and deploying innovative engineering solutions to tank monitoring challenges. This position will work closely with all members (13-15 engineers) of the Tank and Pipeline Integrity organization and support the diverse projects of the entire team. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to advance and grow in this role with increasing levels of responsibility and autonomy. The engineer will work closely with senior engineers and support the Tank Monitoring program as a LOW data analyst along with supporting the integrity program NDE efforts through the use of robotic crawlers and UT sensors. The engineer should have experience (with support of senior engineers) working in groups, authoring technical reports and preparing presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences. Tasks include analyzing data, preparation of quarterly and end of year reports, and working with the team to develop existing and future technologies to advance the program. Additional task includes performing field walk downs, interfacing with craft/field crews, presenting to Department of Energy, developing Statement of Work (SOW) as well as working with various internal and external design A&E and fabrication vendors. The engineer will be expected to complete WRPS' Engineering Technical Staff qualification card. Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering or successful completion of degree by June 30, 2022. The chosen candidate will have laboratory experience with protein biochemistry and assays and will function closely with a team of scientists to design processes for manufacture of proteins and related reagents. The student advisory board consists of a representative of each of the COE schools and aims to provide student voice in administrative conversations. The club board focuses on overseeing the 50+ student organizations within COE. This is accomplished through events, funding, recruitment/outreach and development/ leadership. We collect used SUDs from healthcare facilities nationwide at our newly commissioned facility in Redmond Oregon and remanufacture them to meet or exceed the performance specifications of a new original equipment device. Here are some of the job duties: * Participate in development projects following established FDA design control procedures; from feasibility through production implementation, and release to market phases. * Develop and execute validation strategies for medical device cleaning, biocompatibility, functional performance and packaging studies that challenge the status quo. Write protocols, validation plans, procedures, analyses and reports. Create and maintain the design history file (DHF) and any other records created as part of the development efforts. * Work with multidisciplinary project teams to ensure projects meet established schedules. May serve as the project lead to direct activities related to product development. * Develop and write Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) for processing devices in production. * Engage outside contracting services in support of project needs, i.e. analytical laboratories, consultants, material suppliers and equipment suppliers. Build effective relationships with these resources to meet delivery and budgetary goals. * Effectively communicate cross-functionally within the organization with teammates in: Manufacturing, Quality, Product Management, Marketing, Sales, and Regulatory. * Research and understand device functionality, device patents, and clinical use. This position covers a broad range of duties, including materials processing, instrumentation assembly and upkeep, instrumentation or materials development, and general laboratory management. This is a hands-on job in a collaborative laboratory environment. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Use scientific and engineering principals to process new and existing coating chemistries, composite materials and products. This activity requires executing process runs or discovery experiments in accordance with established experimental plans. * Plan and complete thin-film coating experiments using atomic layer deposition (ALD) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) equipment to create new composite materials. Develop new processes for applying coatings to powders and objects involving low vacuum processing, bench top chemistry, powder handling, glove box work, and testing of new equipment. * Perform tasks relating to assembly and maintenance of vacuum systems and thin film equipment. Learn how essential process equipment functions and complete tasks including materials production, equipment testing and equipment maintenance. * Work collaboratively with scientists, other process engineers and technicians to perform experimental planning, execution and reporting tasks. * Keep a neat and orderly record of all work done. Maintain data and records as necessary to support patent applications for innovative products. * Create/edit/maintain necessary documentation for procedures, processes, and best-known-methods including work instructions, standard operating procedures, and process documentation & recipes. * Maintaining a safe work environment and staying OSHA compliant with relevant safety training.
