Ensure the effective use of material, equipment, and personnel while making products at high-quality levels Position Responsibilities * Assist in the execution of procedures for microbial manufacturing, purification, or support area of manufacturing using SOP's and batch records * Use equipment and techniques related to support for microbial fermentation and/or harvest and purification * Responsible for completing paperwork for each task, cleaning procedures, aseptic processing techniques, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and laboratory safety practices and procedures * Responsibilities include hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling Position Requirements * Bachelor's degree and 0-5 years experience; or Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and 2-5 years of equivalent experience * Experience with fermentor, homogenizer, centrifuge, process tanks, chromatography systems, UF/DF, SCADA control systems, computer, and telephone * Salary Range: $26.44-33.65 Salary range provided per current averages and expectations. Environment health, and safety (EHS) is a discipline that studies and implements practical aspects of environmental protection and safety at work. This position will work with a team of six Environmental and Safety professionals to accomplish tasks to meet annual requirements of a semiconductor manufacturing EHS management system. The internship will also provide the opportunity to work on special projects to make improvements to the work environments, with some flexibility to focus on the intern's specific interests in the EH&S field. The intern will perform a variety of activities ranging from field safety audits to IH assessments to chemical inventory management system reporting. Special projects could include ergonomic improvements, recycling system updates, identifying material reuse opportunities, or method development for improving routine task safety. The ideal applicant should have a strong knowledge of chemistry, interest in extensive field work, excellent communication skills, and be self-motivated with good organizational skills. This position is nonexempt; and your base pay will be $22.50 per hour. As a member of the team you would be responsible for supporting multi-phase technology transfers and production, including: * Working with scientists and development leads to establish a framework for developing manufacturing processes, controls, and procedures, and transferring these new technologies to the site. * Working with our Manufacturing Sciences and Technology (MSAT) team to qualify and validate new equipment and processes. * Owning the development of all batch related documentation including manufacturing batch records, standard operating procedures, training materials, and associated forms. * Collaborating with compliance and quality members to assess process risks and establish appropriate controls for product safety and efficacy. * Works collaboratively in a team environment with end to end responsibility for all aspects of manufacturing operations for clinical and/or commercial products. The person has the expertise to run all operations, including but not limited to: preparation of components, solutions/buffer preparation, cell culture, filtration, chromatography, formulation, fill- finish, and other aseptic operations. * Collaborating cross-functionally to find innovative solutions for process implementation. * Perform all process simulations to demonstrate successful process implementation, for development, for training, and for enabling clinical and commercial supply. * Supporting all activities necessary for GMP operations and commercialization. * Utilizing LEAN methodologies to realize improvements /efficiencies in the processes, increase uptime of equipment, debottleneck the processes, improve yields, and implement standard work to maximize productivity. * Utilize single-use technology, new analytical techniques, and digital manufacturing systems to maximize capacity of a best in class bioprocess facility. * Owning process deviations. You will perform initial triage of unplanned events, act as the unplanned event owner, leading root cause analysis when deviations occur, and developing corrective actions to prevent recurrence. * Promoting a learning culture by training on new processes / procedures and training others. * Travel will be required to support technology transfers and training purposes. May require extended duration trips depending on the needs of the project. This is a multi-faceted role offering variety in daily responsibilities and project-based work. Therefore, the ability to self-manage tasks and meetings to hit project timelines is a must. This role also requires engagement with other departments including quality, compliance, maintenance, engineering, and analytical development technology to collect the right information for the best decision-making. Qualifications / Requirements: * B.S./B.A. degree and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Job Summary: The Cell Therapy Associate I is responsible for the manufacturing of cellular therapeutics for clinical applications within a GMP environment. This role requires skills to perform basic manufacturing operations with direct interaction with cellular products under supervision with general instructions for routine tasks and detailed instructions for new tasks. * Manufacture cell therapy products per manufacturing batch records and in compliance with current regulations and quality standards. Located in Portland, OR, The Oregon Research and InnovatiON (ORION) Undergraduate Internship Program is an American Heart Association-funded initiative designed to train undergraduate research fellows in basic and translational research focused on the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease. The overall scientific goal of the ORION Program is to discover new pathways that represent safe and effective druggable targets to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease, including myocardial infarction and stroke. The overall mentoring goal of the ORION Program is to train undergraduates in four key elements: a) diversity, equity and inclusion in teams; b) experimental premise and design; c) data and quantitative analysis; d) oral and written presentation of results.
