We are passionate about what we do and are looking for talented people who believe they can effect change and better our society and environment, one kilowatt-hour at a time. We are looking for four to six interns, ideally in the Carlsbad, Oakland and Pasadena, CA areas, to work part-time or full-time (20-40 hrs per week) providing support for a large utility's renewable energy program. Since 2001, AESC has completed thousands of self-generation incentive program (SGIP) application reviews and equipment verification field inspections in all the California investor-owned utilities service territories. AESC engineers inspect combined heat and power, fuel cell, electric and thermal energy storage, wind turbine, pressure reduction turbine and waste heat to power systems ranging in capacity from a few kilowatts to multiple megawatts. Selected interns will expand their knowledge of self-generation technologies as well as develop an in-depth understanding of the utility incentive process. Primary Responsibilities Review technical and administrative documents filed with the Self Generation Incentive Programs. These will include: * Project applications, equipment spec sheets, utility load documents, engineering calculations, etc. * Assess application documents using a checklist. * Write-up application deficiencies, and document revisions needed to complete the application in a review form. * Email review form for internal QC and final email of completed review form to utility. Qualifications * Must be working towards obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline. * Strong attention to detail, requires minimal supervision, excellent communication skills. * Possess good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with both coworkers and customers. * Compliance with all safety policies, practices and procedures. * Proficient PC skills including Microsoft Office suite. This position will be based in one of the following locations: Seattle, WA, Tacoma, WA, Olympia, WA, or Portland, OR. The successful candidate will initially be responsible for performing a wide range of environmental and civil engineering tasks. This may include: * Conducting industrial facility inspections, assessing pollutant source control best management practices (BMPs), and preparing stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs) * Supporting technical evaluation of data, conducting regulatory file reviews, assessing industrial stormwater permit compliance, and assisting clients with BMP or treatment improvements * Performing site development permitting and engineering design tasks related to project / site feasibility, drainage review and reporting, erosion control, and grading * Performing quantity take-offs and cost estimating * Assisting with developing engineering plans and specifications under the guidance of a Professional Engineer * Assisting in the production of discharge monitoring report submittals and technical reports * Preparing written documentation for permit applications * Implementing field activities, such as: o Stormwater, groundwater, soil gas, wastewater, soil, and sediment sample collection o Operation and maintenance of existing stormwater treatment systems * Supporting compliance assessment, management, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes * Preparing scope and cost estimates for environmental consulting support Travel within the Pacific NW region and occasional early morning, evening or weekend work may be required. Qualifications: * B.S. or M.S. in environmental, civil, or chemical engineering with related coursework in hydraulics and hydrology, environmental chemistry, and/or wastewater treatment * 1-4 years of relevant professional experience * Registration as an EIT or PE is required * Strong technical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills are required * Knowledge and experience with State and Federal environmental regulations in the Pacific Northwest is preferred Landau Associates offers an excellent compensation and benefits package in an environment that promotes personal growth and professional advancement. Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8AM - 5PM, Onsite Moses Lake, WA Under the direction of the R&D Directors, R&D Supervisor, or R&D Senior Scientist the Research Analytical Chemist will work independently, with other team members and other departments to accomplish the goals of the R&D, High Performance Materials Department, and MLI. Projects typically involve development of methods for measuring physical properties or application tests that will chemically identify or quantify a product or provide a means of comparison among a group of products. Techniques developed will be used in characterization of new products and for enhancement of existing products for current and potential customers. Specific tasks include researching known methods; evaluating and mitigating the potential hazards of reagents and solvents; researching and learning analytical methods; executing analyses; assembling, using, cleaning, and maintaining laboratory equipment; maintaining clear and detailed notes and data in a laboratory notebook to support development of MLI Intellectual Property (IP); and preparing and presenting oral and written data and project summaries. This position is in an R&D department and requires chemists to demonstrate ownership and initiative to demonstrate progress and achieve milestones in their assigned projects; adaptability to rapidly changing needs and priorities; demonstration of good judgment in a potentially hazardous environment; ability to work cooperatively and supportively with a broad range of individuals with different levels of education and experience; and commitment to understanding and executing all tasks to the highest safety and environmental protection standards. The Analytical Chemist will demonstrate professional appearance, behavior and attitude at all times. WHAT YOU WILL BE WORKING ON * Support execution of assigned tasks to the standards and guidelines established by department supervisors and managers demonstrating ownership and initiative. Assigned tasks may include but are not limited to: * Handle solid, liquid and gaseous chemicals including weighing, pouring, measuring volume, mixing, and diluting. * Developing and performing analyses for characterization of new or manufactured products, particularly for methods in development or methods being assessed for suitability for products in development. * Prepare samples minimizing sources of particulate and chemical contamination in laboratory, clean booth, or clean room environments. * Maintain working areas in a clean, organized manner applying good chemical hygiene practices (e.g., cleaning counter tops, equipment, work areas, floors, lab areas garments, etc.) * Prepare a weekly written summary report describing key activities accomplished, projects in progress with milestones and estimated completion dates, observations and opportunities for continuous improvement, help needed and risks for completion of projects/tasks on schedule, and other relevant information. * Perform maintenance tasks on systems or equipment, as assigned. * Complete literature research to determine known analytical methods for target molecules and develop safe and plausible strategies for characterization and quantitation of new molecules. * Execute tasks to defined Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) when such procedures are available and help to develop SOPs for new analytical processes, as assigned. * Review product and instrument key performance indicators statistical process control (SPC) charts for potential statistical anomalies (control chart rule violations such as out of control points, trends, mean shifts, etc). and support investigation and correct action development. * Apply statistical methods to analyze data and analytical methods for metrology capability and correlation (MCC) and compare methods in development to industry standards to assess repeatability, linearity, accuracy, reproducibility, identify outliers, and compare standard metrics such as precision to tolerance or precision to variability ratios. * Compare and contrast potential analytical methods and changes to analytical methods to establish and quantitate the effectiveness and impact of continuous improvements on different analytical options. * Support troubleshooting using Response, Flow, Checklists (RFCs) and support the development or documentation of RFCs, as assigned. * Support the development of new procedures and other documents as needed including updating existing procedures to enhance safety, clarity, or efficiency. * Draft, review, and submit new or revised procedures for enrollment applying MLI's Document Control Procedures as assigned. * Maintain a laboratory notebook with detailed and legible records of data, observations, and projects to support generation of MLI Intellectual Property (IP). * Comply with all policies and procedures for the safe handling of chemicals and chemical waste. * Perform necessary tasks and work hours needed to accomplish departmental and company goals. * Protect MLI IP using appropriate safeguards to ensure confidential information, including but not limited to notebooks, procedures, computers, oral disclosures, and electronic files, is secured at all times. * Fully participate and take responsibility for executing the training program identified by your supervisor including timely attendance at scheduled training, giving full attention and participation during training sessions, and working with supervisor and department training coordinator to identify and schedule refresher training as needed to maintain 100% compliance with retraining requirements. * Follow departmental communication guidelines including reviewing e-mail at the beginning and end of each shift; responding to e-mail in clear, concise, business-appropriate, English to acknowledge receipt and to provide response or schedule for response for actions requested; and proactive communication to managers, project stakeholders, or others when assistance, direction or clarification is needed. * Support development of new products and analytical methods, modifying existing analytical methods for continuous improvement, and services for commercial applications based on customer, market, or technology needs working both independently and within teams receiving direction from a supervisor or senior scientist(s) to establish priorities and requirements. * Demonstrate a drive to achieve results through diligence and teamwork. * Search chemical literature for established analytical methods or related methods that support achievement of goals. * Read, understand, and apply information in chemical literature, safety data sheets (SDS), and other relevant information sources to identify and mitigate risks of working with hazardous chemicals and processes. FREE FOOD provided Jenny Green is a project engineer at Landau Associates in Seattle, working in contaminated site remediation for public and private clients in the Pacific Northwest. She graduated from Oregon State in 2016 with an Honors Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering and did her undergraduate thesis on bioremediation of chlorinated solvents with Dr. Lew Semprini. She then attended Stanford to study remediation technologies and graduated with a Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2017. Jenny started at Landau Associates in 2018 and has worked as a staff and project engineer for the past 6 years. About the role: Boston Scientific is seeking a highly creative and strategically minded Principal Research & Development Engineer. The successful candidate will provide deep technical knowledge specifically related to the design and development of next generation catheter-based solutions. This candidate will work within a team to develop new catheter and delivery system solutions in the exciting and challenging Mechanical Circulatory Support space. This will be a technical SME (subject matter expert) in a new and critical development area for the company. The candidate will be a key technical resource with demonstrated experience in the catheter design space. Your responsibilities will include: * Providing technical subject matter expertise in the area of catheter and delivery system development. * Be hands on and engaged with the project team, driving multiple technical lanes simultaneously and prioritizing appropriately. * Leading the design & execution of structured experimental plans to drive data-based decisions. * Facilitating crisp decision making on key technical issues. * Creating a strong team culture of high expectations and high performance * Interfacing with Physicians/Cath Lab personnel to obtain feedback on concepts and performance of new solutions. * Providing clear communication to stakeholders at key technical updates * Understanding the anatomy, clinical use cases and user interface requirements to drive design decisions. * Be current on latest catheter materials and fabrication techniques, incorporating these into competitive design solutions. * Develop a strong internal and external network, leveraging that network to deliver results for the program. * Provide technical guidance to technicians/entry-mid-level engineers. * Be a strong team player, collaborating across process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing on complex projects to ensure project success. Required qualifications: * BS in Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical Engineering or similar field. * Required minimum years of work experience (primarily in medical device or related field): 7+ Years with BS, 5+ Years with MS. * Demonstrated ability to provide technical solutions on a large-scale development program. * Deep technical knowledge and experience in the catheter/delivery system space. * Solid clinical knowledge and experience in cardiovascular and peripheral anatomy. * Experience managing technical aspects of projects as a member of a cross-functional team. * Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied sources. * Excellent organizational, communication and collaboration skills. * A proven ability to deliver robust technical solutions to complex engineering problems. * A solid understanding of critical catheter-based product performance metrics. Preferred qualifications: * MS in related technical field. * Experience developing solutions within a complex device system. * Experience working in a commercial PDP project environment. * Class II or Class III Medical Device product development experience. * Solid experimental design and statistical analysis knowledge * Deep understanding of catheter and delivery system materials and technologies. * Knowledge and experience in advanced prototyping and fabrication techniques, and ability to distill several technical concepts into a robust solution.
