Looking for mentors to join us in the next Academic Year

Good morning! This past year Ecological Engineering partnered with the Mentor Collective to create a fantastic mentoring process that we used to help guide and mentor our students throughout this past year. EcoE is the ONLY program in College of Engineering with this fantastic opportunity for mentorship. The program was an incredible success this past year, with many of our students feeling more supported while they are at OSU and more prepared to enter the job market. As we move into the next Academic Year, we are preparing to kick-off the next cycle of mentoring and we would love for you to be involved!! The Mentor Collective program does a great job of matching students with mentors who have been in their shoes and know first-hand what it's like to be a student at OSU BEE. Students even have the choice to request a mentor to match with based on demographics and needs. Here's how the Biological & Ecological Engineering Mentor Collective Program works: * Time Commitment: * The mentorship program ends on June 2025, but you're more than welcome to stay connected with your mentee(s) after the program formally ends. * We recommend that you connect with your mentee(s) at least once a month. * Matching Process: * Mentees complete a survey about themselves and their backgrounds. Jen Cohen can save you some time by pre-registering you so all you need to do is complete the survey. * Mentor Collective matches mentees and mentors based on what the student says is most important to them. * Mentees begin signing up in September: * Once you are matched with a mentee, you will both decide how you want to connect, which can happen via email, phone, videochat, text, or in-person Being a mentor is more important now than ever. You'd be able to provide a space for OSU BEE students to discuss their experiences at the university and beyond, as well as connect them with resources that build resilience. I strongly encourage you to become a mentor and make a difference in the success of your peers. More information about the mentor experience is available here<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mentorcollective.org%2Fmentors&data=05%7C02%7Cbee-alumni%40engr.orst.edu%7Ce92768d884b144f97e0608dcb7c54dfb%7Cce6d05e13c5e4d6287a84c4a2713c113%7C0%7C0%7C638587305251397020%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=hipRnA8YutLeMZPefJx%2F3NOshF%2FSyBsuG%2BqdJgFW0%2Fo%3D&reserved=0>. Mentor Collective will email you with more information-please review it, and do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions you may have, or you can contact Mentor Collective directly: help@mentorcollective.org<mailto:help@mentorcollective.org>. If you would like to continue to be involved OR join us in this coming year's endeavors, please reply to let me know so I can get your pre-registered in the system. We hope to start matching students right after the term begins, near the end of September. Also, feel free to share this with your colleagues who may also be interested in mentoring our students. Thanks for supporting our unit! [This email originated from outside of OSU. Use caution with links and attachments.] Hello Jennifer, Yes I'd be willing to be involved in the mentoring program. It was in 2011 when I hired Hayden Ausland as an intern to as a 'first you do it' expansion into the new undergraduate program. That worked out. Internships provide a great mutual benefit between mentee and mentor. Expanded opportunities. I plan on being in CVO about Sept 2 - 3, and plan to visit BEE. More to come.
