Dear Faculty, Alumni and friends of BEE,
As many of you may have already heard, Dr. John Bolte is stepping down and the department is in the process of hiring a new head. John has been the head of BEE (with a department name change or two along the way) for over 20 years. With his great leadership, the department has grown and developed into an amazing collaborative department with partners all over the world. John has accomplished a lot during his time as the department head in BEE, including the launch of our first-of-its-kind Ecological Engineering undergraduate program and achieving full accreditation for that program, bringing on a fantastic group of new faculty that are becoming national and international leaders in their fields, and developing a culture of inclusive excellence that is broadening the impact of our programs and providing new opportunities for students regardless of their background.
Although Dr. Bolte is stepping down, he will continue to lead research in BEE by taking on a new role leading OSU's College of Ag Science's efforts at helping Oregonians address the many water-related challenges facing the state. We truly look forward to working with him in this new endeavor.
In honor of his time and impact on BEE and the hundreds of students we've brought through the program, the faculty have decided to establish an endowment in his name. We are hoping to raise $50,000+ so that we can honor his legacy by assisting underrepresented undergraduate and graduate students fulfill their dream of becoming an engineer.
If you are able to give, please follow the link below, which will designate your tax-deductible donation for the John P. Bolte Legacy Endowment. https://give.fororegonstate.org/ObAUx5Iluo<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgive.foro…>
We are hoping to reach our goal by May so that we can announce this new endowment at the annual Spring Banquet on May 19, to which everyone is invited.
Thank you and kindest regards,
Jennifer Cohen (on behalf of the faculty of BEE)
